Onam Festival falls during the Malayalam month of Chingam (August - September). It is the biggest festival celebrated with joy and enthusiasm by people of all communities in Kerala, with four days of State holiday. Onam is reminiscent of Kerala’s agrarian past, and is considered to be a harvest festival and includes a spectrum of cultural events. Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, celebrates the return of King Mahabali. The harmonious, cheerful, and exuberant festival is marked with flower mats (Pookkalam), grand feasts (Onasadya), boat races (Vallamkali), Thiruvathirakkali (a popular dance form), and leopard dance (Pulikkali). Within the constraints of the pandemic situation, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, is celebrating Onam with the following online competitions for our students:
- Pookkalam,
- Short videos of Onam celebrations at home.

Pookalam (Theme - OnamPonnonam)
- Minimum size should be limited to 3 feet x 3 feet
- Use of any material other than fresh natural flowers will not be permitted (Eg. Leaves/Colour powder/Salt etc.)
- Photo of the Pookalam to be uploaded in your MS office onedrive and the link to be uploaded and shared with faculty coordinator
- Photo should contain the Pookalam and participant, in Onam costume, positioned behind the Pookalam
- As the evaluation is based on the photograph sent by the participant, quality of the photograph (in proper lighting etc.) is important

Short Video Making (Theme - My Onam Celebration)
- Duration is restricted to 3 minutes
- Make sure that the content of the video is closely associated with Onam celebrations at your home
- Make sure that participant is present in most part of the video
- Only family members other than the participant can be included in the video
- Audio and Video editing is allowed
- Video to be uploaded in your MS office one drive and the link to be uploadedand shared with faculty coordinator
